we have a third story animal
Linda reports that there are bits of cheese and chicken bones on our porch. Fine, some animal is depositing them there. We know we have squirrels on our porch on occasion - which pleases our cats greatly. But squirrels don't eat chicken, do they? I shouldn't think bones are ideal nesting material either.

What other animals live in a city and are capable of scaling brick up to a third story porch? I've seen raccoons, but I would think they're too heavy to climb that far. Bunny rabbits can't hop that high and certainly don't eat chicken. I've never seen birds on our porch, or at least nothing bigger than a sparrow - so it isn't crows or magpies. I really doubt skunks can climb that far.

So what is it?

Possum or raccoon, probably

Raccoons can climb three stories of brick? I mean, as you say, that's the most likely candidate if we're on the ground floor, but there's no easy access. Plus (now that I think of it), the fudz are in our planters, and there's no footprints.

Those buggers are industrious. Though a possum might be a more likely option - they climb very well and also eat meat.

Are possums common in KW? I've never seen one, although I can believe they're around in woody areas or even campus... but I live on Erb W. :)

I'd believe that before a raccoon though.

I guess I'll watch the cats and see what they see.

I've had them a couple of times in my backyard. Ugly looking buggers

Seems plausible then.

Forgot, Linda said she found some scat too... about the right size. So yeah, likely a possum.

And they have no real natural enemies, save foxes and doggies. And automobiles. Guess it's time to figure out a way to hoist our car up 2.5 stories.

I think I'd seen that picture before, but forgotten it.

AWM NOM NOM!

Still, the next squirrel I see doing that myself will be the first - and we used to live in the country with two birdfeeders.

Possum most likely (they're more reclusive than raccoons), coon maybe (they can scurry up things like drainpipes on a brick wall), cat unlikely, carrion bird probably not so low off the ground.
