So guess who just rebooted a Solaris 8 machine after reinstalling then replacing its shadow file, forgetting that it had been decreed our machines shall not have root passwords set?

Then you took a refreshing walk to get the bootable media to let you in as single-user, or did the anonymous-rsh-from-the-master trick?

No default gateway set on the host. (Not sure how that happened, but it was convenient yesterday to not really have to worry much about it being compromised while I was patching it.)

I walked upstairs to put the CD in, only to realize I had brought the CDs downstairs with me yesterday. So I ran back downstairs, fetched them, and ran back upstairs to beat the boot cdrom -s.

sigh.

The number of times I had wished there were a fire-pole through the floor... isn't zero. Wouldn't that be a lot of fun.

It gets better, I only mounted half of the mirror when I blanked the password, so it chose the wrong half to use for /etc/shadow. So now it's booting single-user from CD again.

I swear, it's like a 0.25X CDROM. I initially said 0.5, but that seems too fast given I've talked to a prof about his Mac power supply, bitched on IRC, responded to one posting on LJ, and now I'm responding to you - and it's still booting.

You might consider that a bonus feature, if only CSCF were a programming shop and everyone were stick figures.
